In my Women's Studies class the other day, we discussed when the birth control pill became legal. Our teacher, an openly gay woman, insisted that if the pill had never become legal, it would have strongly, directly, and intimately affected the lives of the "heterosexual women in this class."
I felt a bit left out. I'm not straight, but no birth control pill could still affect me very much. Complaining to a gay friend about this later, he started talking about how all women can use the pill to regulate menstrual cycles, as though that's what I meant. I stopped him, because that wasn't my point. And I'm tired of people assuming I'm gay because I have a girlfriend. Admittedly, these assumptions aren't important and have little to no affect on my daily life, but it's the principle of the thing. Anyway. It's an icon. Hope you enjoy. ^.^ |
