Because I need to

Thu Dec 31, 2009, 1:45 PM
Happy New Year's, folks. :)

No resolutions this year, I'm afraid. I've only been able to keep one, ever, and that one's still going (go veg) so I'm going to leave that area alone. By the way, I haven't (knowingly/willingly) eaten meat in three years now.

I'll be spending New Year's with some friends back in the university town, which I haven't been to since I moved out of the dorm. I'm ready to go back. Love my little town though I do, I've missed BG. So, yeah. It'll be great when I have an apartment up there.

And then my bff, our moms, and I are going to a great pizza place on Saturday. It's one of the things the four of us do together and we haven't been in a long time.

And on Monday, I'm going to get my truck fixed. Poor thing's cruise control doesn't work.

And on Tuesday, my mom (and possibly bff) and I are going to Nashville to hang out and relax and spend the night.

And on Wednesday, I'm going to California or something, I don't know.

Avatar

I went to see Avatar last night. You know, blue kitty-people on a planet covered with cuteness and happy times? Excellent movie. Highly recommend it.

But I'm actually posting because today, on Yahoo's homepage, I saw a news story about "hidden messages" [link] within the movie. Intrigued, I decided to read the article, but I was stunned by the first paragraph: "...some who have seen the film say that it contains hidden messages that are anti-war, pro-environment, and perhaps even racist."

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a minute.

Hidden?

The article goes on to say that a bunch of people think the messages are, um, not hidden very well. Here I thought that's what the movie was about. :/ Surely no one who has seen the movie is surprised to hear that it was anti-war and pro-environment and, if not racist, at least a heavy commentary on racism? Do people even think about movies anymore?

Apartment Life

Sun Dec 13, 2009, 6:42 PM
I'm getting an apartment for next semester! This friend of mine is moving out of her apartment, so her roommates need someone else to move in. So they invited me!

My mom is nervous about it, since I haven't lived anywhere other than with her or in the dorms. But I like these women, the apartment is right next to campus with its own little parking lot, and it'll be great fun. Well, it'll be an experience. I'll have my own room, rent, and NPH nights. What could possibly go wrong?

The One

Journal Entry: Fri Nov 27, 2009, 3:42 PM
I'm watching Grey's Anatomy and they are discussing "the one," and how you're supposed to know that you've found "the one." Got me thinking.

If you could change one thing about how love is portrayed in the media, to make the portrayal more "realistic," what would you change?

Or if you could change the reality of love in one way to make it more like the media portrayal, what would you change?
